A United States postal inspector was on hand in Evanston on Monday, Jan. 9, to investigate break-ins of mailboxes and post boxes in Uinta County, including Evanston, Cokeville, Fort Bridger, Lyman and Mountain View.
The incidents took place between Nov. 19 and Nov. 21 and are believed to be related to an incident involving a stolen tow truck and a stolen BMW.
According to police reports, on Sunday, Nov. 27, a tow truck carrying a grey BMW was stolen from Jim’s Towing in Evanston.
An investigation led to the arrest of Adam Rhodes in connection to the stolen vehicles. While investigating those thefts, police discovered numerous bags and backpacks containing keys to mailboxes, as well as mail and checks to different people in a vehicle driven by Rhodes.
This evidence was then turned over to US Postal inspectors, who contacted the people involved.
The Evanston postmaster could not be reached for contact. In an interview with this reporter, US Postal Inspector Brook Fuller said that the investigation is ongoing, but he confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody, on motor vehicle theft charges.
