FORT BRIDGER – Thirty-seven people and eight dogs each walked a mile during the second annual ‘First Day Hike’ held at the Fort Bridger State Historic Site at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1.
The entrance fee was waived for this event, and there were prizes and refreshments.
Warmly dressed participants walked briskly through the Fort Bridger site, visiting with fellow walker’s and enjoying the winter scenery, according to site director, Linda Byers.
The event was held in conjunction with ‘America’s State Parks First Day Hikes’ promotion which now encompasses all 50 states. These events were created in an effort to build park attendance, promote healthy lifestyles and encourage year-round visitation/recreation at state parks.
