LYMAN Kyle Eyre and Bronson Berg were sworn in as new and returning council members to the Lyman Town Council at their meeting on Jan. 4.

The pros and cons of hosting the truck and tractor pulls again in Lyman this summer were discussed at length by the council. The benefits to holding the event here, according to Lyman Mayor Andy Hewitt are that by holding it attendance may grow, and it draws people to Lyman from out of town.

The downside of hosting the event here is the town will always be in the red, Hewitt stated, due to the cost to hold the event. The town lost approximately $4,300 hosting the event last year.

The council agreed to host the truck and tractor pulls on Sept. 21, as long as the fee to the association remains the same as last year.

A public hearing was held for Ordinance 2012-11, an ordinance amending the criminal penalties within the Town of Lyman. The audience was asked for opinions about the ordinance. According to Lyman Town Attorney Thayne Peterson, the ordinance will divide present misdemeanor charges into two catagories. Class A misdemeanors will still have a possible penalty of up to a $750 fine and up to six months in jail, which is the possible penalty for all misdemeanor charges at this time. The new class B penalty will be a $750 fine. There was no public comment during the public hearing. The council voted unanimously in favor of the ordinance on second reading.
