EVANSTON – The Uinta County Commissioners approved an application for a beetle kill analysis grant at their meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The funds would be provided by a state fund for an analysis with the Forest Service on the removal of beetle-killed pine trees in the Uintas. The request was made by Joe Hickey and Carl Larson of the Uinta County Coalition for Multiple Use. They said the dead trees pose a fire hazard.
The commission also approved two waivers during the meeting. One is for a fee waiver at the Youth Camp for Uinta County School District 4 special education department. The department hosts Camp Carpe Diem on June 27-29. The camp is held annually for disabled youth and gives them an opportunity to participate in activities such as archery to rock wall climbing; fishing and canoeing to biking, crafts, games and basketball. Professionals in education, occupational, physical and speech therapy, nurses and many others volunteer are present at the camp.
In other action, the commission approved a fee waiver for the county fairgrounds equipment. It will be utilized for the Fresh Air Freedom and Fun July 4th Festival sponsored by the City of Evanston. The request was made by Roni Ottley, Evanston Parks and Recreation.
