MOUNTAIN VIEW – The boys basketball team of Mountain View kicked of their season with tournament play in Thermopolis last weekend and earned two notches in their belts.
The boys were pitted against teams from Thermopolis, Tongue River and St. Stephens and came out victorious in two of the games. The Buffs took a tough loss to Thermopolis, 55-58 in overtime but were able to recover to beat St. Stephens, 53-43, and Tongue River, 43-33.
The Buffalos’ coaching staff was most impressed with how the boys came together and played as a team.
“We didn’t have a good first game. We played them tight, but we turned the ball over and made some costly mistakes,” said coach Tony Micheli, “It was a good weekend. We improved a lot on defense. I think the kids really learned just how much effort they’d have to put in, especially on the defensive end… they really picked each other up… one minute, one person stepped up, and the next minute, someone else would. I was pleased with the way they played as a team.”
