LYMAN – The 2013 Lyman Eagle cheer squad took the program to new heights last weekend at the Wyoming State Spirit competition, as they not only matched the non-stunt state champion title of the 2012 team, but brought home a second state champion title in the stunt category.

This is the first time the Eagles have won in this category. The Eagles competed in their second event by flying and flipping their way through a nearly flawless routine.

The 2013 Eagles were coached by Paula and Brooke Yarborough.

“State cheer was an amazing experience that showed us that hard work and dedication really pays off.” said senior Aubrey Spray. The Eagles started off the competition with a performance in the non-stunt category that soared over every competitor.

“I will remember this experience for the rest of my life. Winning both competitions was an amazing victory, but it’s the reward of becoming not just a better athlete,” said senior Kylie Iverson of the Eagles’ dominance at the spirit competition, “But a better person from the lessons my coaches and teammates taught me that made it all worthwhile.”

The final point tally in the non-stunt left the Eagles towering over the competition with a score of 82.833. Their closest follower was Douglas, who scored 80.000. The girls from Mountain View also participated in this category, finishing sixth in a total of 15 teams with 71.667 points.

“From the very first practice, we all had one goal,” said Ashley Houskeeper, an Eagle senior who was chosen as an All-State representative this year, “which was to be state champions. We made that goal very clear, whether it was at the beginning of practice doing kicks or at the end of practice when we did our cheer. We all worked extremely hard over the past 10 months and there is absolutely no other way I could have asked to end my cheer career than with such amazing girls and coaches. Not only one state champion title but two!”
