LYMAN – The boys swim team for Lyman Intermediate topped out at home in their swim meet last Saturday, May 4.

Lyman took first place with a score of 243, 29 points ahead of the second place contender, Lander Middle School. This win gave the boys of LIS an almost perfect season.

Lyman’s team includes boys from both Lyman and Mountain View schools.

The 200 freestyle relay team – Kolten Rogers, Colton VanGieson, Trevor Hicks and Konner Legault – broke the school record with a time of 1:52.37. The previous record was 1:55.47.

Ben Niederer broke the school’s diving record with a score of 123.65 for the five dives. The score was previously held by Niederer’s brother, Ryan.

Saturday’s conference meet meet included 10 teams. Also competing at Saturday’s meet were Evanston, Green River, Kemmerer, Rock Springs, Riverton, Pinedale, Rawlins and Big Piney.

Evanston came in third at the meet with 190 points, and Green River with 102 points. Big Piney took last with 30 points.

“After a DQ on the 200 free relay in the first swim meet and losing by a few points to Evanston, our boys stepped up, worked hard and didn’t look back as they went on a roll and swam their way to victory the rest of the season,” swim coach Shelly Wakley said.

Wakley and Heather Hicks coached the team.

“Defeating nine teams at the culminating meet and breaking two school records, our boys ended their season with an almost perfect season. This is the only middle school team who has accomplished this feat, winning a championship.”
