LYMAN – Ann Wingeleth is making final preparations to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Wingeleth will have her final practices with Central City Cheetah Coach Roland Tolbert of Salt Lake City, Utah, this week and leave for nationals on July 23.

She competes with the Cheetahs in the USATF events due to the proximity of the team.

As a sophomore, Wingeleth has five Wyoming track and field championships under her belt, with two of those qualifying as “Best of the Best” (all classes championships). Wingeleth competed in the Junior Olympics her eighth grade summer and was a top eight medalist for high jump at the competition.

Wingeleth is currently seeded number one in long jump and high jump, with a sixth seed in triple jump in the 15-16 age group. She broke regional USATF records in long and triple jump to qualify for nationals. Seven other Cheetah teammates will be competing in various events. The Fafita family of Utah has five athletes qualified to attend. William Prettyman of Salt Lake is seeded number two in the 100m dash, 11-12 year old division. Prettyman runs the 100m dash in 12:08. He is also in the top 18 for the 200m dash.

Coach Tolbert relies on donations to support his travel with the team. He uses his own vacation time, and frequently money out of his own pocket to assist athletes who cannot afford to compete to have the opportunity to go to competitions.

The Wingeleth family will be hosting a garage sale at 515 W. Clark Street to help defray expenses for Wingeleth and Tolbert this Saturday, July 20, 8 a.m.–noon.
