BRIDGER VALLEY – As the final plays of football season are left on the field and the final plays have been served on the volleyball court, the Valley now turns its attention to Bridger Valley basketball.

The teams will all face their first action of the season this weekend in a tournament in Thermopolis.

The Lady Buffs are coached this year by Dustin Rees. The team was sent home without a placing at state last year, and will be looking to improve and take first.

“This is the hardest working team I have coached, and I am excited to see what we can do,” Rees said about the start of the season.

The Lady Eagles have taken in a new coaching staff, with Kevin Lueck at the head position. The Eagles took a tough two-and-out loss in regionals last year and have their sights set on state this year.

“I’m surprised by how hard these girls are working and buying into what we’re trying to get them to do. It’s going to be a process, and it will take a marquee victory to convince these girls they can be successful.”

The boys from Mountain View will start another season under coach Tony Micheli. The Buffs are coming off an early loss in the regional tournament last season, and will be looking to show what they’re made of, with their focus on State.

“We’re really excited to play a game,” said Micheli. “The boys are excited to play. We aren’t quite ready to play yet, obviously, but we’re at the point that we need to play a game.”

The Eagle boys will take to the floor again under the direction of coach Don Toomer. The boys are seeking revenge after a tough loss in last year’s third place game, which sent them home with nothing.

“This first week will be a great grading scale to see where we’re at. We’re excited for the year,” Toomer said.
