LYMAN – Lyman’s defining moments of 2012 began on March 3, when their boys basketball team stole second place at the 3A West Regional Tournament.
The boys took a loss from Star Valley in the regional championship, securing second and a place at the state tournament.
Four days later in Casper, Lyman athletes had another memorable moment, as the 2011-12 cheer squad claimed a state champion title in the 3A non-stunt events.
In May, the Lyman team had another big feat, as the Wingeleth duo scored 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place honors in four separate events. Ann Wingeleth claimed first in the long jump and third in the triple jump and 200 meter dash, while her brother Bobby took second in the men’s long jump.
Later in the year, on Oct. 20, Lyman’s volleyball team claimed fourth place at the regional tournament, making it to state for the first time in several years.
On Oct. 26, at state swimming, Lyman had another moment of pride as one of their students, Jamie Johnson, stepped up to claim second place in the 100m diving event.
One of the most memorable events of the year for the Valley occurred towards the end in November, as Lyman’s football team rolled over every opponent on their way to a state title. They became the first team in Lyman High School history to claim an undefeated season and became state champions over Lovell.
