LYMAN – The Feb. 6 planning meeting of the Lyman School resulted in the board adjourning into executive session to discuss a personnel issue.

They remained in executive session for about an hour and a half.

On their return, Jim Eyre, board chairman, said Superintendant Kent Stokes would continue to be on administrative leave.

“We are obligated by law not to say anything else about this, until this is settled,” Eyre said.

During the executive session, a petition was circulated among the crowd in support of retaining Stokes as superintendant.

Eyre, after several questions were asked by audience members, stated, “We’d like to get this settled. The investigation is over. There are still some things we need to look at. This case may be confidential from now on. Allegations have been made, and a process that is mandated by Wyoming State law has to be followed.”

Stokes who attended the meeting stated, “I have the right to know who my accuser is, and what I’m being accused of in a timely manner. It is school policy.”

Eyre replied, “Our hands are tied, because of state law. Personnel matters are confidential.”

An audience member asked, “If our superintendant is terminated, will there be any warning?”

Geoffrey Phillips, Uinta School District #6 legal council, answered, “Due process has to be followed. The process is to protect everyone involved. The board has to approach this in a very careful way. The board is unable to discuss this in an open board meeting.”

According to Phillips the name or names of the accuser(s), and the nature of the charges brought, will never be made public.
