LYMAN – Scanner traffic indicated a natural gas tanker blew a tire, which then caught on fire on County Road 233. just a couple of miles into the county road near the last exit on the east of Lyman.
The driver quickly tried to extinguish the fire but was unable to and left the scene, heading south toward Lyman.
According to Fire Marshal Rusty Megeath Monday morning, the only damage was to the tires on the rear left side. The inside ‘dulie’ exploded and caused both of the tires to burn. The incident happened around 4 p.m. Sunday.
Megeath said, “the only damage was to the tires.” By the time the fire department arrived on the scene, the fire had “almost consumed itself.” The metal was slightly heated, Megeath said, but there was no danger to the tanker. The fire department did hose down the tanker to cool the metal, he said.
