EVANSTON – Uinta County Sheriff’s Deputy Brooke Hale was named Police Officer of the Year by American Legion Post 41, Evanston.

Legion commander Frank Spero and Dick Burchell presented the award to Hale on Aug. 21.

Hale was selected for the award following two letters of recommendation from the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office – Lieutenant Dave Evins and Lieutenant Tom Saprony.

Both men praised Hale for her contributions to the Sheriff’s Office since her employment in October 1997 when she joined the department as a communication officer. In this position in 2004, she “took the initiative to compose a Communication Officer’s Code of Ethics and Mission statement which many agencies around the state and nation have adopted” Saprony wrote. In 2009 Hale accepted a position in the patrol division as a deputy sheriff and provides service to the community.

According to Saprony, Hale’s dedication, desire to help and her attention to detail has made her an excellent deputy. As a deputy she also “has taken on the role of agency health and wellness instructor…Brooke was recognized at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy for her academic merit and achieving the Fit for Duty pin.”

Evins wrote Hale was “an excellent addition to our agency and the law enforcement community.” Evins commended Hale for her work on a particular case in Bridger Valley in March 2011 in which a series of four business were burglarized. “Deputy Hale took it upon herself to assist the investigators…found the key piece of evidence; video of the suspect vehicle and the suspect breaking into the business,” Evins wrote. According to Evins’ letter, Hale was instrumental in solving the case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
