MOUNTIAN VIEW - Tod Polson, who was raised in Bridger Valley and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1989, has worked extensively as a director, designer and teacher, helping develop projects for companies all over the world.

A few of these projects include El Tigre, and Ni Hao Kai-Lan for Nickelodeon, Happily Ever After for HBO, and the Oscar nominated feature The Secret of Kells for Cartoon Saloon. In October, his book The Noble Approach, Maurice Noble and the Zen of Animation was published by Chronicle Books LLC.

“The Noble Approach is for anyone interested in art, design or animation. It was Maurice's desire to create a book that would speak to animation professionals but would be accessible enough that even young students could grasp his ideas,” Polson said.

The Noble Approach observes the life and animation beliefs of Maurice Noble, the distinguished American animation background artist and layout designer whose influences to the industry span more than 60 years.

Polson helped Noble pass on his approach to animation design from concept to final frame and rounded out the book with illustrations, sketches and original artwork spanning the full scope of Noble’s career.

“Maurice had been formulating ideas and notes about design since the 1930's” Polson said. “I started helping Maurice put his notes for The Noble Approach together when I, and a few of my college classmates began training under him in the early 1990's. The last few years of his life Maurice’s eyesight began to fail, and he started dictating many of his ideas about color, pan speeds and such to me, which I would write down for him. Just before he died, Maurice asked me to help finish his book if anything were to happen to him.”
