RIDGER VALLEY – The 19th annual International PEDIGREE Stage Stop Sled Dog Race known as the IPSSSDR passed through the Bridger Valley last weekend bringing in sled dog teams from around the country.

Races started in Jackson at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31, and finished at the Deadhorse Trail head south of Mountain View Feb. 8, at roughly 4 p.m.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the Feb. 7 leg in Kemmerer was canceled. This is the first time in the 19 years, any leg has been cancelled, according to participants. There was too much snow and too much falling snow, the groomed trail couldn’t be maintained to ensure the safety of the dog teams.

Winter weather continued to wreak havoc on the trail, causing mushers to get lost on their way to the final leg of the race at the Deadhorse trail head just 30 miles south of Mountain View.

After delays and consideration, the final leg of the race was an out-and-back from the Deadhorse Trailhead instead of an over-the-top finish to south of Evanston. In addition, due to the weather, the Junior Musher event south of Evanston was also cancelled.

The final leg south of Mountain View, completed the nine day 330 mile cross country sled dog race.

Blayne “Buddy” Streeper of British Columbia Canada won the 2014 IPSSSDR with a total cumulative time of 18:43:20. Streeper is a veteran musher who owns and operates Streeper Kennels with his father Terry Streeper.
