LHS and MVHS soccer teams hit the ground pitching for wins

Posted

BRIDGER VALLEY — The LHS soccer teams hosted the MVHS teams Tuesday afternoon, May 10, and the four teams were out for wins.

It was a nice warm day with a slight breeze, excellent day to play the game and for fans to watch from the sidelines.

Although the sport is fairly new to both schools, both have adopted the challenge with gusto. When MVHS and LHS went head-to-head at Lyman, this was the second conference game in which the two teams had played each other. Mountain View aced both games Tuesday. The win for the MVHS boys was their first win since the team had played varsity ball the last two years.

The game between the Lady Buffs and the Lady Eagles was full of defense, which kept both teams off-balance on the offense. Neither team scored in the first half. In the second half, around the 50th minute of the game, Lady Eagle Karly Sabey nailed one in the net for Lyman so they took a one-point-lead.

Lady Buff Alyxa Martin put one in for the Lady Buffs to equalize the score. A hand ball call on Lyman with around eight minutes left in the game, put Lady Buff Kaycee Bugas on the line for a penalty kick. She sent the ball into the net, and the Lady Buffs led by one.

Lyman didn’t have time to respond and the Lady Buffs added the game to their win column with a score of 2-1.

As for the boys teams, when they met in Mountain View earlier this season, they played to a draw, four-to-four, in overtime. The Buffalos scored three goals in the first half and the Eagles scored three goals in the second half. In overtime, each team added one goal but neither could add a second goal for a win. Some old time athletes used to say, “A tie is like kissing your sister,” but both teams had to be proud of the way they handled the game on the pitch.

Lyman will go up against Pinedale last week in the Pinedale arena. Mountain View will host Lander last Friday and Pinedale last Saturday to round out the season. Then it will be the state tournament next week at Cheyenne if any of the teams can grab the brass ring for a trip to the state tournament.
