The Mountain View High School wrestling teams competed at their respective regional tournaments over the weekend, with the Buffalos placing eighth at the 3A West Regional Tournament in Pinedale, and the Lady Buffs 20th at the 4A West Regional Tournament in Evanston.
A total of 11 Buffalos placed in the top eight of their respective classes, earning them a spot at next weekend’s 3A State Wrestling Championships in Casper. The Lady Buffs had one state qualifier in Abby Turner, who finished fourth at 135 pounds.
The Buffalos were led by third-place finishes from Boone Aimone at 215 pounds, and Mason Tims at 285 pounds.
After winning a close 4-3 decision over Denton Wainscott (Powell) in the 215-pound quarterfinal, Aimone fell in the semifinals to Bridger County rival Max Gregory (Lyman). Aimone bounced back with a pin over Alejandro Hernandez (Pinedale) in the consolation semis, earning a spot in the 3rd-place match, where he won a 5-3 decision over Jacob Eaton (Powell) for the bronze.
At 285 pounds, Tims pinned Hayden St Clair (Lander Valley) in the quarterfinals, but stumbled in the semis against Doug Bettger (Powell), losing by tech fall. After winning a 5-1 decision over Xakery Aleman (Lyman) in the consolation semis, Tims won the 3rd-place match with a 3-1 decision over Ray Rice (Worland).
Also placing in the top eight and earning a trip to state were: Colter Tims at 157 pounds (4th place), Landon Solaas at 165 pounds (4th place), Levi Jones at 175 pounds (4th place), Radley Maxfield at 126 pounds (5th place), Kayd Allen at 150 pounds (5th place), Thomas Elizondo at 190 pounds (5th place), Garrett Redden at 120 pounds (6th), Clayton Sawyer at 150 pounds (7th place) and Riggs Reeves at 165 pounds (8th).
For the Lady Buffs, Abby Turner placed fourth at 135 pounds, posting a 3-2 record for the tournament. Turner opened the tournament with back-to-back pins over Brooklyn Masters (Pinedale) and Peyton Hadden (Lyman), but fell in the semifinals to Gabby Dowling (Greybull/Riverside).
Turner pinned Nalani Jordan (Powell) in the consolation semis to earn a rematch with Lyman’s Peyton Hadden in the 3rd-place match. Hadden flipped the script this time around, pinning Turner in the third round, and dropping her to fourth.
Other Lady Buffalos that earned team points included Jessi Lamoreaux at 115 pounds (2-2), Lila Callister at 140 pounds (2-2) and Mackayla Arthur at 145 pounds (1-2).
