The Mountain View High School wrestling teams competed at the Lander Invitational over the weekend, combining to place three wrestlers on the podium, including one overall champion.

The Lady Buffalos finished 20th in the team standings, while the Buffalos placed 24th overall.

Levi Jones won the 175-pound championship for the Buffs, and was the lone placer on the boys’ side.

After opening the tournament with three straight pins — over Douglas’ Michael Rouse, Pinedale’s Trevin Beal and Lander’s Taj Prine — Jones squared off against Kemmerer’s Bridger Anderson in the semifinals. The match was back-and-forth for much of the first two rounds, before Jones pulled away in the third to win a 16-6 major decision and a spot in the title match. Jones pinned Riverton’s Jordan May at the 3:59 mark to win the championship.

Other point scorers for the Buffs included Clayton Sawyer at 150 pounds (1-2, with a bye), Colter Tims at 157 pounds (2-2, with a bye), Thomas Elizondo at 190 pounds (1-2, with a bye), Boone Aimone at 215 pounds (1-2, with a bye) and Mason Tims at 285 pounds (2-2, with a bye).

For the Lady Buffs, Mackayla Arthur and Lila Callister both earned a spot on the podium at 145 pounds, wrestling each other in the 5th-place match.

Arthur won a close 6-5 decision over her teammate to claim fifth place, and finished the tournament with a 4-2 record. She opened the tournament with a pin of Pine Bluff’s Isabella Osterman, but lost in the quarterfinals to Danika Crumrine (Lovell). A pin over Addison Farnsworth (Powell) and a 17-15 decision over Tesslyn Keehn (Big Piney) landed Arthur in the consolation semifinals, where she lost to Tawny Bertolini (Greybull/Riverside), setting up the showdown with Callister.

Callister’s road to the 5th-place match began with a loss to Tawny Bertolini (Greybull/Riverside), though she bounced back in the consolation rounds with a pin over of Skye Mitchell (Thunder Ridge). A loss to Emma Lowder (Thunder Ridge) in the consolation semis placed her in the 5th-place match.

Other point scorers for the Lady Buffs included Jessi Lamoreaux (1-2) at 110 pounds, Dally Lamoreuax (2-2) at 120 pounds, Clara Romig (1-2) at 125 pounds, Elena Elizondo (2-2) at 135 pounds and Elena Elizondo (2-2) at 170 pounds.

The MVHS wrestling teams will head back over South Pass this week for the 2025 Ron Thon Memorial Tournament in Riverton. Consistently billed as the toughest wrestling tournament in the state, the Ron Thon pits the top wrestlers in Wyoming in each weight class against each other, regardless of classification — a true “Best of the Best” competition.
