EVANSTON — Mark Anderson was once against voted in by his fellow commissioners to serve another two years as the Uinta County Commission Chairman during the first meeting of 2025, held on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
“I appreciate the opportunity, it’s been great,” Anderson said. Anderson will also serve as the county representative to the Wyoming County Commissioners Association.
Several public board appointments were announced during the meeting. Gary Welling, Brenda Morrow and Josh Davis will join the 2025 Grievance Board, with Jerri Crompton and Josh Rasnake assigned as alternates. Uinta County Clerk Amanda Hutchinson will remain the Civil Rights Compliance Officer.
James Brett Anderson will serve on the Fair Board for a five-year term while a vacancy for an unexpired term remains available; Barbara Couture and Rebecca Osterberg will each serve three years on the Library Board; Kelsee Ficker will serve the Museum Board for a three-year term; Barney Brisko will retain his seat with the Bridger Valley Joint Powers Board for three more years as will Commissioner Eric South.
The Uinta County Planning and Zoning Commission welcomes Brent Barker and Dennis Covolo for three-year terms each; Patricia Arnold will serve another three-year term with the Council of Uinta Health Care Trust; the Lincoln Uinta Revolving Loan Fund approved Benjamin Critchfield for three years; the Uinta County Veterans Board currently has three open positions for three-year terms and received no applicants.
Uinta County Weed and Pest supervisor Chris Aimone announced the board appointments of T. Adrian Hunolt, Weston Maxfield, Gordon Robinson and Chad Spackman for four-year terms each.
The commission then unanimously voted to ratify the Industrial Siting memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Uinta County and other counties, cities, towns and municipalities in Southwest Wyoming for the Kemmerer power station unit 1 project impact assistance.
“Kudos to Loretta (Howieson Kallas, the Uinta County Attorney), Gary (Welling, Planning and Zoning Coordinator), and Darby (Noorda, Planning and Zoning Administrative Assistant), for their work on this,” said Commissioner Anderson.
Hutchinson requested the approval of an ERISA notice, which requires compensation to a consultant that assisted in navigating the county employee insurance policy.
“He’s saved us $4.3 million ... over 10 years,” Hutchinson explained to the commissioners before they approved the consultant’s fee.
“He’s done a great job all these years looking out for Uinta County,” South said.
Uinta County Maintenance Director Jeff Breininger presented a bid from Norris Construction to the tune of $67,219 for concrete installation to repair the floor drains at the Road and Bridge shop in Evanston. The commissioners approved the bid.
Finally, Human Services Coordinator Rebecca Osterberg was seeking approval of an amendment to the Community Services Block Grant removing the requirement of liability insurance.
“We have it, but are not seeking out other insurances,” Osterberg told the commissioners.
Hutchinson further clarified that while the amendment strikes the obligatory parameter to carry insurance, the county will retain it nonetheless. The commissioners approved the amendment.
