Friday afternoon was Homecoming for the Lyman High School football team, and coming off a solid showing in a 25-22 loss at Lovell the previous week, spirits were high that the Eagles’ first win of the season was just around the corner.
It wasn’t to be. In what turned out to be a defensive dogfight with visiting Worland (2-2, 1-2 in 2A West), the 0-5 Eagles saw their hopes for Homecoming Heroics dashed by a first half pick-six, falling to the Warriors 7-0.
“The kids played hard, and the defense played great,” said Lyman head coach Dale Anderson. “We struggled to find a good rhythm offensively, so that will be something we will continue to work on.”
Defensively, the Eagles held Worland in check the entire game, allowing the Warriors into the red zone just once, and turning them over on downs. Lyman’s defense recorded four quarterback sacks — two by Dallin Smith, and one each from Marshall Hatch and Everett Lee.
“The defense really played well,” Anderson said.” “We had a lot of different kids contribute to that effort.”
The Eagles travel to Kemmerer Friday, looking to play spoiler for the Rangers’ Homecoming.
“For the Kemmerer game, we need to be more consistent offensively, and continue to build on our defensive effort from last week,” Anderson said.
