The Lyman High School boys’ swim team concluded the 2025-25 season last weekend with strong performances at the 3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in Gillette, finishing fourth as a team, with eight individual placers and Top 4 finishes from all three relay teams.
Lander won its 29th 3A team title in a row with 355 points, followed by Buffalo in second with 254 and Cody in third, with 189. Lyman was fourth with 170, while Powell rounded out the Top 5, with 91 points.
LHS sophomore Trey Buckner led the Eagles with a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle, earning All-State honors with a time of 5:17.01. Buckner also made the podium in the 50 freestyle, placing sixth with a time of 23.55.
Freshman Branson Busskohl qualified for the finals and reached the podium in both of his individual events, placing third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.25) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (51:17). Junior Evan Bentley also posted a third-place finish, swimming to a time of 55.38 in the 100 butterfly; he also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.37).
Sophomore Stone Hooten also had a solid state meet, placing eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.01) and 14th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.45). Porter Swensen swam to a 10th-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:16.90); he also finished 11th in the 100 freestyle (54.03). Kyler Hogman posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.74); he finished 14th in the 50 freestyle (24.17). Myles Taylor was 10th in the 100 backstroke (1:03.30); he also finished 15th in the 200 freestyle (2:06.16).
Sophomore Reese Osborne qualified for the finals in both of his events, placing 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:01.45), and 12th in the 500 freestyle (5:39.02).
In the relay events, the team of Myles Taylor, Mason Aimone, Evan Bentley and Trey Buckner finished fourth in the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:45.88.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Mason Aimone, Porter Swensen, Stone Hooten and Branson Busskohl also placed fourth, with a time of 1:34.52, while Odin Eyre, Trey Buckner, Branson Busskohl, Evan Bentley finished fifth in the 400 freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:29.48.
LHS freshman Emmitt Walker competed in Event #13 — the 50 freestyle — placing first with a personal-best time of 29:02. Walker was also the recipient of the Nancy Nakahara Profiles in Courage Award, which recognizes young athletes who have had to overcome adversity in order to fulfill their athletic dreams. Walker had a rare form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma, which resulted in the amputation of his right leg. Now cancer free, Walker is active in a variety of sports, as well as a member of this year’s All-State Choir.
