Hometown wrestling dual and honors bestowed

LYMAN — LHS hosted a hometown dual with MVHS who won 38-36, last Saturday, Feb. 11.

It was senior night for Levi Trees. junior Morgan Hatch was recognized for 100 wins. Also, inducted into the athlete Hall of Fame, were Kip Platts, Dixon Bluemel. The 1988 state wrestling championship team was inducted into the Lyman’s Team Hall of Fame.

Former wrestling coach Gary Rollins was also honored at the event last Saturday.

The team was the 2A region and state champions and won two regional tournaments. Some of the teams’ accomplishments included 10 state placers with three that the state championship. The team also scored the most points ever scored at a state tournament when they took the championship. Bluemel took third at state and was the first freshman to place as state. He earned All State and All Conference his junior and senior year. He also earned All Conference in football in his sophomore year.

Platts was the 125-pound state champion in 1990 and again in 1991 at 130 and 1992 at 135. He notched an undefeated season in1991. He earned All State and All Conference and All State Wrestling in his high school career. Platts went on to wrestle four years at the college level.
