The Lyman High School hoops teams saw their seasons come to an end earlier this month at the 3A West Regional Tournament in Lander, with the Lady Eagles going 1-2 and the Eagles 0-2 to close out 2024-25.
The Lady Eagles (14-11) opened the tournament Thursday, March 6, with a 35-25 loss to Bridger Valley rival Mountain View, though they rebounded the following day with a 26-23 win over Lovell (10-14) to keep their state hopes alive. Squaring off against Lander in a loser-out contest, the Lady Eagles played hard but came up just short, losing 45-41 to end their season.
“The girls gave a maximum effort all weekend,” said LHS head girls coach Jason Hansen. “They played such great defense, holding teams well below their scoring average. We just had times during the tournament and all season where we went on scoring droughts, and that was what happened this weekend, as well.”
The Eagles (7-17) had a tough draw in the opening round, losing to eventual 3A West and 3A State champion Lovell (26-3), 70-38. Lyman’s season came to an end the following day, with a 61-41 loss to Worland (11-13).
Lady Eagles
Opening the tournament against a familiar foe in Mountain View, the game was as hard-fought as the two previous meetings between the two teams this season, with the Lady Eagles coming up short in a 35-25 loss.
Anna France paced Lyman with seven points, to go along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Payton Anderson followed with six points — to go along with seven rebounds and three steals — while Addison Smith and Owen Hansen added four points apiece. Falyn Youngberg and Isabel Redmon rounded out the scoring with one point each.
The Lady Eagles shook off the loss the following day to earn their lone win of the tournament, a 26-23 win over Lovell that ended the Lady Bulldogs’ season.
Payton Anderson and Owen Hansen led the team with seven points apiece; Anderson grabbed five rebounds, while Hansen finished with three rebounds and three steals. Addison Smith finished with four points — to go along with a team-high six rebounds and three steals — while Falyn Youngberg and Isabel Redmon chipped in three points each. Anna France rounded out the scoring with two points.
Squaring off against Lander in loser-out action on Saturday, March 8, the Lady Eagles battled but came up short, ending their season on a 45-41 loss. Trailing 35-28 headed into the final frame, Lyman rallied to win the fourth quarter 13-10 and cut the lead to four; that was as close as the Lady Eagles would get, as the clock ran out on their season.
Falyn Youngberg led the charge with nine points, to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. Owen Hansen followed with eight points, while Payton Anderson added seven points. Addison Smith and Eden Smith chipped in five points apiece, while Rylee Hysell and Isabel Redmon tallied three points each. Anna France rounded out the scoring with one point.
“Mountain View averaged 50 points per game this season, and we held them to 31 points,” coach Hansen said. “Lovell averaged 40 points per game this season, and we held them to 23 points. I’m really proud of the fight that these girls showed. It was great to see at the end of the tournament how much each girl cared for each other, and that they will have friendships that will go beyond basketball.”
Eagles
The Eagles had their work cut out for them to open the 3A West Regional Tournament, taking on eventual 3A State Champion Lovell. Lyman played hard, but couldn’t find an answer for the Bulldogs’ high-powered offense, losing 70-38.
Dallin Bradshaw led the team with 14 points, followed by nine points from Deavon Schear. Dallin Smith chipped in four points, Joey Bluemel added three points and Gavin Johnson, Ayden Wyatt and Colter DeWitt rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
