MOUNTAIN VIEW — Mountain View High School is among the elite of Wyoming high schools by having the class of 2023 post a 93.1% graduation rate, according to the Wyoming Department of Education.
The average graduation rate for the state of Wyoming is 81.4%. The MVHS graduation rate represents the commitment of an entire community and district to see students do well, according to district officials.
MVHS has continued to push students to learn at high levels with creative implementation of programs, hiring highly qualified teachers who care, and continuing to have a focus on power standards through the teacher-led Professional Learning Community process.
“One real strength of the staff at Mountain View High School is that we work hard to make connections with our students,” school counselor Stormy Hauf said. “We want students to feel safe in our school.”
The graduation rate of 93.1% represents MVHS graduating 54 of 58 students in the cohort. Three of the four students listed as non-graduates left the school or moved from the community before their senior year. In the 2023 MVHS Senior Exit Survey, 100% of the graduates surveyed indicated they have goals for after high school and a plan for how they are going to meet those goals. Of those graduates from the class of 2023, over 94% of the students indicated they were going to a two or four-year university or a vocational school.
“Graduation rate is just one measure of a school’s ability to prepare students,” MVHS athletic director Dustin Rees stated. “We see this with the high percentage of our students who are involved in school activities and sports. Our students involved in activities like music and art and FFA and sports are generally our best students who are committed to graduating.”
Mountain View is one of only four 3A schools to have a graduation rate above 90%. Those other schools are Pinedale, Rawlins, and Wheatland. This is the third year in a row that MVHS has had a graduation rate above 90%.
Another southwestern Wyoming district to receive this recognition was Lincoln #1, with a 91.7% graduation rate.
Both Park #16 and Sheridan #3 were ranked with a 100 percent graduation rate. Sublette County #1 and Converse County #2 were next in line with graduation rates of 97.6 percent and 95.9 percent, respectively.
