MVHS volleyball team knocking down wins at the net

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The MVHS varsity volleyball team continues to make their mark at the net and on the court taking wins to put them as champion contenders in 3A by notching an overall and conference record of 18-6-1, 3-0.

The team with the closest ranking as of Oct. 1 is NE Buffalo which has an overall and conference record of 18-3-3, 3-0. But as all fans know, when it becomes post season, all records fly out the window and all teams again compete on a level playing field.

As of Oct. 1, the MVHS Lady Buffs were #1 in the 3A SW Quad.

Mountain View beat Lyman in the Eagles Lair last Friday and romped over the Lady Wranglers in Pinedale last Saturday.

“I am super proud of all our girls this weekend. They got two big conference wins and are doing so many great things. Way to go MV Volleyball!,” Diana Tims posted Sunday on WeAreMV.

Mountain View also played Green River in a non-conference meet Monday. Mountain View swept the match in three: 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.

Mountain View, like other 3A West teams, is headed to the Conference Duals today and tomorrow at Powell. Teams play multiple matches during the duals. Mountain View’s first game will be today against Lovell at 3 p.m. They are slated for a second game today against Worland at 6 p.m.

When the Lady Buffs and the Lady Eagles faced each other in a conference game at the net last week on Friday, fans were in for some hard-hitting ball. The Lady Eagles took the first set. The Lady Buffs dug in and fought back taking the second set. This moved the match into four sets with the Lady Buffs taking the last two sets. The Lady Buffs took the win 3 to 1: 17-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23.

At Mountain View’s game last Saturday in the Wrangler arena in their second conference match of the week, the Lady Buffs swept the match in three sets: 25-12, 25-22, 25-15. The Lady Buffs were a little shaky at the start of the first set, but soon doubled the Lady Wranglers score, 8-4. Although the team traded points, the Lady Buffs maintained their lead and moved out ahead with a 12-point advantage and ended the set with a 13-point lead.

In the second set, Mountain View put up the first two points following the third ace of the match by Kate Walker. Pinedale tied the score at four then fell behind. When it was getting closer to crunch time Pinedale was able to tie the score again at 16, 20, 21 and 22. At this point, the Lady Buffs again powered up and added one for a one-point lead and two more points to take the set.

In set three, Pinedale came out with a renewed vigor, putting up the first point and gaining a three point lead, 5-2. But the Lady Buffalos fought back and tied the score at five. The score was tied at 6, 7, 8 and 10. At this point, the Lady Buffs didn’t look back and continued to hamper the Lady Wranglers scoring. The score at the end of set three ended in a 10-point advantage for the Lady Buffs, 25-15.

In this match Walker had nine kills, followed by McKinley Covolo and LexyRinker with six each. The team had 10 aces.
