Summer is goin’ and fall is comin’ on

BRIDGER VALLEY — As the summer is winding down, it is setting the stage for fall, which means fall sports are definitely on the horizon.

Like starting next week. Where did the summer go? But to athletes, big and small, they keep their eyes on the upcoming seasons and, of course, being pumped and ready to go.

Both Lyman and Mountain View sports teams have been extremely active this summer with what was deemed camp season. The teams have been at multiple camps to polish and improve on skills in their individual sports.

As for football, which has a dynamic importance in the Valley, it is hard to believe the 4A gridiron players will head into practice this next week. As for 3A, 2A and 1A, they have another week with their first practice of the season, no pads, but on the fields on Aug. 14. The three smaller classes then don the pads and hit practice on Aug. 17.

The first contest for football is sated for Aug. 24, on the doorstep of the new school year.

As for the cross country teams, they have been working part of the summer so they are ready for the official practice season which starts Aug. 14. Their first contest will be Aug. 24. Endurance, that’s the name of the game for anyone who heads out for the long distance cross country runs.

Lyman High School fields a team for girls swimming and diving and for golf. The swimmers hit their first practice on Aug. 14. Must be a magic day as it sets the fall sports seasons in motion for the Valley high schools. The first day for a contest is also slated for Aug. 24, in this sport. The golf team will start their season on Aug. 7, with the first contest on Aug. 9. The LHS golf team will hit the course in Start Valley on Aug. 9-10.

As for the gals on the volleyball teams for both Mountain View and Lyman, they also have the magic days of Aug. 14, first practice, and Aug.24, first contest.
