CASPER — Two of the three soccer players who swept the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for April 3, are from Bridger Valley.

Lyman junior Karly Sabey and Green River sophomore Isabel Vasco shared the girls’ award. Mountain View junior Nash Piekkola was the boys’ honoree. They were chosen for their terrific performances during the week of March 25 - March 30,

Sabey led the Lyman Eagles to their first win in program history over rival Mountain View, 3-2. Her nomination from a coach, said it all, “Karly was instrumental in Lyman's win over Mountain View last Wednesday (March 27). She scored two of the three goals and had one assist. She was also excellent defensively and showed true leadership on the field.” Sabey’s second goal was the game-winner with just over 20 minutes left.

Vasco set a single-game school record and played a part in 12 goals during Green River’s 13-1 victory last Thursday, March 28. The nomination from a coach said, “Isabel had a great game this week in Green River’s first conference game. She is a captain on the varsity squad and scored 10 goals in this first conference game. That is a new record for Green River in a single game.”

Piekkola led the Buffalos to two conference wins the week before named Male Athlete of the week. He scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick with less than one minute left at Pinedale and followed that with a hat trick in a road win over rival Lyman. His nomination stated, “Nash led the Buffalos to two consecutive wins this week. He had 5 goals and 2 assists which were critical for Mountain View's victories.”
