MVHS XC at Star Valley, 2 runners in top 10

STAR VALLEY — The MVHS XC runners competed at the Star Valley Pre State Meet last Saturday and two runners finished in the top 10.

“Mountain View Cross Country had a great day yesterday,” head coach Isaac Kiefer said Sunday. “Katie Giorgis and Tanner Erickson finished in the top 10 at the Star Valley Pre State Meet, 12/23 MV runners achieved personal records yesterday in their respective races and Trace Hadley took home a top 10 finish in the JV boys race.”

The race was considered a pre-state meet as it gave runners a look at the course they will compete on for the 3A state meet on Oct. 24. The race was held on the Valli-vue Golf Course in Star Valley.

As for the teams, Jackson took first, followed by Evanston and then Rock Springs in both the boys and girls events.

As expected in the boys event, Star Valley’s Peter Visser came in first with a time of 16:17, out pacing Jackson’s Ben Williams’ time of 16:55, taking second.

MVHS runner Tanner Erickston hit the finish line in fifth place with a time of 17:48. The next Buffalo to cross the line was Tayden Bell, 16th, with a time of 18:35. He was followed by: 27. Wyatt Jensen, 19:52; 32. Gauge Shephard, 20.28; 34. Aidan Salinas, 21.43.

There were 40 racers competeing in this event.

In the girls event, Jackson’s Kate Brigham pulled into the finish line in first place with a time of 20:20. Two other Jackson runners finished the race in second and third place, Muriel Jones, 20:32, and Sarah Tallerico, 20:37, respectively.

MVHS runner Katie Giorgis turned in the fastest time for the Buffalos with a time of 21:41, taking ninth place. The second fastest time turned in for the Buffalos on the girls team was Jayda Kenison, 23:04, for 17th. She was followed by 29. Cortney Winn, 24:37, and 32. Faith Whiting, 26.42.

There were 35 racers in this event.
