LYMAN — The July 24 Pioneer Days celebration in Lyman will be held tomorrow, July 24, in Lyman with a multitude of activities to entice residents to come and enjoy.

This year’s celebration will be even more special for the area as last year’s bit the dust due to the pandemic, which griped the nation. The Bridger Valley Pioneer Days celebration pays tribute to July 24, 1847, when the Mormon Pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. Bridger Valley’s Pioneer Days is boasted as the largest celebration of this date outside the state of Utah.

The theme for this year’s Pioneer Days Celebration is “Pioneers: Past and Present,” and lays tribute to those who came before and those who will follow.

The celebration was kicked off with the Brenn Hill concert Tuesday night and the Junior Rodeo Wednesday night. Tomorrow will feature a full slate of events starting with the triathlon at 7 a.m. The triathlon includes a 10-mile bike ride, a 250-yard swim and a 3.3-mile run testing the mettle of the competitors. The race will begin and end at the Lyman High School. In keeping with this spirit, the kids races will begin at 8:30 a.m. Free T-shirts will be given to all participants. Medals will be given to those who place in the top three categories of the races, whether individual or teams.

As the excitement of the day builds, Lyman’s Main Street is where all the action will be at 10 a.m. as the parade winds down the street. Line-up is on East Canal Street on the south side of town. The parade will travel through the main part of Lyman and end at North East Street. The street will be lined with eager spectators. Kids will have bags for the oodles-of-candy they expect to get that is thrown from the floats.

The community barbecue will follow the parade. This year the barbecue will be at the Heritage Park on the east edge of town. Those who attend are asked to utilize the Lyman High School parking lot and walk across to the Heritage Park.

In addition, there will be pioneer activities and games at the Heritage Park for people to enjoy.

Early weather forecasts for Saturday included a mostly sunny day with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. But, the heat will be on, slightly cooler with a high predicted around 87 degrees.

The days excitement will end with the final rodeo at the Lyman Rodeo arena. Those who earned a shot to compete at the rodeo will compete for the top notches in each event.
