EVANSTON — The Uinta County Commission met in regular session on May 18, approving work on the Evanston-Uinta Airport, the landfill and awarded the Commission scholarships to Uinta County graduating seniors.

The work on the airport, unanimously approved, is funded from an FAA Airport Improvement Program Grant Agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration For $313,705 to rehabilitate runway 5/23, reconstruct runway 5/23 lighting, and construct taxiway A4 (Phase 1) at Evanston-Uinta County Airport/Burns Field. In addition, the commission also amended and approved the agreement between the Wyoming Dept. of Transportation, City of Evanston, and Uinta County. This also provides the parties will participate in WYDOT’s Urban Systems Program in the Evanston Urban Area, Uinta County.

Also approved unanimously by the commission was an agreement with Dustbusters for $314,288 to apply dust suppressant on certain county roads using CMAQ grant. $290,000 of the amount would come from grant funds with the rest a county match.Clarification of which roads were included was not received by press time.

The commission awarded a scholarship to a graduate three Valley graduates. There were no applicants form Evanston High School. Scholarships were awared to Mackenzie Sill, Lyman and to Haylee Rudy and Tyler Petersen, both of Mountain View. Michael Newton was named as an alternate for Mountain View.

The commission rejected the bid for the operation of Evanston Landfill #2 and approved the return of the bid bond to GT Nix Construction. The bid of $1.2 million was above the landfill’s operating budget.
