HEBER CITY, Utah — Eva Slaughter Sleight, age 80, died surrounded by her family and love on Jan. 13, 2022, at her home in Heber City, Utah.
Eva was born on Oct. 9, 1941, in Caliente, Nevada; to Frank Madison Slaughter and Martha Elizabeth Durtschi. Eva grew up in Midway, Utah. She married Jack Young Nov. 7, 1958. They had five children and later divorced. She then married William (Bill) Sleight. Eva enjoyed many things. Among them were quilting, crocheting, reading and watching sports, especially a good Wyoming Cowboys football game. Go Pokes! She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her family as a Crumbl Cookie lover and for having chocolate stashed in every corner of her home.
Eva loved her Savior and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church over the years and she loved serving recently in the library. Her absolute favorite calling was being a Sunbeam teacher. Those sweet spirits could make her smile. Eva was also proud to have served a mission with Bill in the Illinois Chicago Mission from December 2001 to November 2003.
Eva is survived by her children Carolyn (David) Darlington (Rock Springs, Wyoming), Frank (Wendy) Young (Lyman, Wyoming), Patrica (Matt) Eardley (Mountain View, Wyoming), Charlie (Barbara) Young (Lyman, Wyoming), Gordon (Leaca) Young (Cantwell, Alaska): stepchildren Frances (Don) Young (St. George, Utah) and Ruth (Raymond) Sweat (Heber City, Utah); 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Bonnie Dutton (Kingsland, Georgia) and Mary Abbott (Richmond, Utah).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill; sister, Barbara Ellen; and two granddaughters.
A huge thank you to the family, nurses, friends, neighbors, health care workers, Meals-on-Wheels, Ward members and others who made it possible for her to live so long in the place she loved. It really does take a village. Our hearts are full with gratitude and love for all of you.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Heber 9th Ward Chapel, 325 North 500 East, with a viewing two hours prior from 9-11 a.m. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
