Green River Wolves took three of four Valley matches last week

BRIDGER VALLEY — This week kicked off the seventh week of the soccer season, and the Mountain View Buffalos and Lyman Eagles have been hampered without being to practice and play games on their own pitch.

Last week proved to be a break for both teams as they actually got to play in front of their hometown crowds, but the matches for the Valley teams against the Green River Wolves proved to be disappointing for most of the teams.

This week, the Buffalos and Eagles went head-to-head Tuesday afternoon on the Eagles’ pitch. Originally the game was slated to be played in Mountain View, but the wet snow, which covered the Valley Monday night left the MVHS field to wet for play. The game was moved to the Lyman pitch at the Lyman High School stadium

The MVHS Lady Buffs proved to roll over the LHS Lady Eagles and took the game with five goals while holding the Lady Eagles scoreless. The Lady Buffs were charged up and ready to take control of the match as they walked on the pitch. They scored three goals in the first half and two goals in the second to take the win by five, 5-0. Both teams played hard, but the Lady Buffs scoring and defense held the Lady Eagles from taking the win. The Lady Buffs have now have a 3-3 overall and conference record. The Lady Eagles have a 0-4 and a 0-3 overall and conference record, respectively. Mountain View is third in the 3A W, and Lyman sixth.

The Lyman Eagles took the conference match over the Mountain View Buffalos, 7-6, after the shootout. The match was hard fought by both teams with the Eagles putting up two goals in the first half. The Buffalos answered the challenge and scored two goals in the second half. As per regulations this year, the final outcome in 3A soccer matches would be determined in a shoot out. Lyman place five balls in the net compared to Mountain View placing four balls in as goals so Lyman won the game, 7-6.

Back to the action against Green River last week, the Green River Wolves came in as a pack, to take on Mountain View and Lyman in conference games. The Wolves stepped on the pitch in Lyman and clipped both Eagle teams. Neither team gave up without a fight, but they couldn’t control the pitch. For the Lady Eagles, Paige Rose was able to put the ball in the net in the first half for a goal, but the Lady Eagles still trailed by one at the half, 2-1.

The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Eagles in the second half as Green River added three goals to the board while the Lady Eagles added one. With about five minutes left in the second half, Eliza Clegg put the ball in the net on a well-placed kick, bringing the Lady Eagles within three goals of the Lady Wolves, 5-2.

As for the Eagles, when they faced the Wolves, the Eagle defense stopped the Wolves from charging away. With 21 minutes left in the first half, the Wolves led by one, which was the score at the end of the first half, 1-0.

Both teams scored a goal in the second half giving the Wolves a one-point win over the Eagles 3-2. The Eagles goal was from a kick from Hill with 15 minutes left in the second half, tying the score. Near the end of the match, Green River sent the ball to the net as it passed through the hands of the Eagles’ goalie, taking a one-point lead and the game, 2-1.

Mountain View hosted the Green River Wolves Saturday morning. The Wolves cornered the Buffalos and took the game by four, 4-0, holding the Buffalos scoreless. Wolf Grace scored two of the goals for the Wolves and now has six of the 11 goals the Wolves have scored this season.

As for the Lady Buffs, they were able to take the win over the Lady Wolves with adding one point to their score in the shootout, 4-3. Both teams scored a goal in the first half and both scored two goals in the second half making the score tied at three at the end of the match. The Lady Buffs kicked one ball in the net during the shootout to take the win by one, 4-3.
