FORT BRIDGER — Lloyd "Butch" Kahus, 86, was born April 12, 1937 to Lloyd and Mary (Roitz) Kahus, they later divorced. He passed away April 25, 2023.

He was raised by his grandparents, John and Mary Roitz on the Roitz family ranch in Fort Bridger.

He graduated from the Mountain View High School in 1956.

Butch met the love his life, Nancy Hoopes, and they were married in 1958.

From their union was born two children: daughter, Melody; and son, Remy.

He worked at the Fort Bridger Historical site for 40 years.

Butch was also an avid trapper and an accomplished taxidermist.

His knowledge of history and Native American culture was sought out by many in the region.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; daughter Melody; son, Remy (Michael); grandchildren: Chase (Taina) Bond, Morgan Bond, Miranda (Josh) Matthews; and nine great-grandchildren.

Butch was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, in-laws Chase and Bertha Hoopes, son-in-law Don Bond, great-granddaughter, Felecity Elizabeth Bond; and great-grandson, Francis Lloyd Bond.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Fort Bridger, Wyo.; tomorrow, Saturday April 29, 2023.

Viewing and Rosary will be 5-6 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the church.
