Lyman Eagles tapped as top 2A football team in poll

Posted

LYMAN — The Lyman Eagles have a presence in the 2A football classification by taking two consequative championships, and Wyoming coaches and media remember the Eagles tough work on the gridiron.

In the WyoPreps Coaches and Media poll released this week, the Lyman Eagles were seen as the favorite beginning this year’s season. The Eagles picked up all of the first place votes except for two. Those two went to the Lovell Bulldogs who were last year’s runner-ups.

The Eagles are one of five championship teams to receive the nod in the recent poll covering all classifications. Sheridan, Cody, Lyman, Shoshoni, and Little Snake River begin this year where they finished last November. None of the five were unanimous choices for the No. 1 spot.

The Eagles soared over two teams of Bulldogs, Wheatland and Lovell, to take the championship and fly home with the trophy last season. As for this year, prospects look good for the Eagles.

Ashton Housekeeper and McKoy Smith, two key players for the Eagles, are returning and have proven to be powerhouses for the Eagles.

After Lyman and Lovell in 2A, there appears to be some uncertainty from the voters as 12 of the 15 teams got votes. Last year’s semifinalists, Torrington and Wheatland checked in at third and fourth, respectively. They are separated by only nine points in the voting. The Cokeville Panthers round out the top five in 2A. They bring back two all-state players. Seven other teams got votes.

WyoPreps gives every head coach in each classification and media from around the state a chance to vote in the rankings.
