Mountain View and Lyman notched wins at Lander Duals

LANDER — Both Lyman and Mountain View hit the court in Lander for the Lander Duals, a non=conference bout in which teams from the north and south got a chance to look at competition they don’t see until they hit the state tournament.

Going into and as of Oct. 10, both teams are considered power players of the 3A earning the best overall and conference records. The teams that come close to the two Valley powerhouses are also from the south, Southeast that is, in the tams from Wheatland and Douglas.

Lyman and Mountain View both claim 25 overall wins, Lyman with three losses and Mountain View with four. In conference play Lyman has three wins and no losses. Mountain View has two wins and one loss. The loss was to Lyman. When the two teams played a short time ago, they both entered the court with a 2-0 conference record, and only one could walk out the winner.

Last week was a good weekend for Mountain View and Lyman as they hit the court on Friday and Saturday. Mountain View aced all four of its games in three sets. Lyman lost their first game to Powell in four sets. They won their next three games in three sets.

Lyman hosted Pinedale Wednesday and play in away games today and tomorrow at Lander and Rich County. Pinedale and Lander are conference games.

Mountain View plays today in Pinedale and hosts Lander tomorrow in the Buffalo Dome at noon.

Mountain View went up against Thermopolis in their first game of the duals last Friday. The Buffalos controlled the game in all three sets, holding Thermopolis down on points, 25-14, 25-13, 25-13. They went up against Powell, and also took this game in three, 25-23, 25-9, 25-20. Set one was the closest as they only took the game by two points, but made up for it in set two taking the win by 14 points. Set three was a five-point difference.

On Saturday, Mountain View played the Worland Warriors in a game the Buffalos again took control.

On Saturday, Lyman went up against Lovell and took the game in three: 25-12, 25-23, 25-18. They also played Worland on Saturday, and took the win in three: 25-23, 25-9, 27=25.

Lyman and Worland paced each other in the first set, then Lyman got a three-point lead at the countdown time, 23-20. Worland added two points to cut the score to 23-22. Lyman added another point for a two-point lead, which Worland responded and cut the lead to one, 24-23. The Eagles dug in, put up the set point and took the game. 25-23.

In the second set, the Eagles dominated the court, took the lead and added points to the board keeping the Warriors from scoring and earning a 10-point lead, 16-6. The Eagles increased their lead to 13, which dropped to 12, but they never let up, taking the win by 16, 25-9.

In the third set,

The Eagles again hunkered down, added a point to tie the score at 25. They edged ahead by one and then added another to take the set, 27-25 and the game in three.
