MVHS Buffalos notched third football win of season

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The MVHS Buffalo football team is back to being a power on the field as they coasted to a win over the Hot Springs Bobcats last Friday in Thermopolis, 34-14.

Today the Buffalos host the Lyman High School Eagles in a game, which will prove to be a highpoint for many Valley residents as they are on hand to root for their favorite team. As for the struggle between the two teams, both will most likely buckle down and be tough to try to claim the bragging rights for the Bridger Valley Bowl.

The Buffalos enter the today’s game with three wins and no losses under their belt. The Eagles have taken a couple of clippings, but they will be ready to spread their wings and try to claim the win. The Eagles enter the game with a 2-2 record.

Due to Mountain View’s wins, the Buffalos have moved up to the #2 spot in the 2A West and Lyman has dropped to fourth from their losses. At press time, Lovell was ranked #1 in the 2A West.

In Mountain Views game against Thermopolis last Friday, the Buffalos were able to score a touch down run at the end of the first quarter to put some points on the board.

Second quarter play was hampered from the raindrops as it made the field a little slick, made the ball harder to cling to and made it harder for both teams to manage their game plans.

The Buffalos were able to score a second TD and PAT to put more points on their side of the board.

The Bobcats pulled a trick play as the second quarter was winding down so they were able to keep possession of the ball instead of having to turn it over. They couldn’t capitalize on this play to score so when the first half was over, the score was in the Buffalos favor, 14-0.

In the second half, Thermopolis’ Roedy Farrell kicked the ball to the Buffalos, but this ended in another turnover and the ball was in the Bobcats possession. More turnovers and the Bobcats were able to score as Thermopolis’ quarterback Gavin Shumway threw the ball to Farrell, who ran 80-yards for a touchdown, followed by the point after to give the Bobcats seven points compared to the Buffalos 14.

The Buffalos scored another touchdown, but they didn’t make the extra point, taking the lead by 13, 20-7 with two minutes left in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats were stymied by the Buffalo defense and had a hard time trying to move down the field. Multiple flags throughout the game plagued both teams.

As the fourth quarter was winding down and the Buffalo held possession, Dane Branson recovered a fumble, ran for a long distance and crossed the goal line to add six more points for the Buffalos. The point after was unsuccessful, but the Buffalos had a healthy lead as the game wound down, taking the win, 34-14.
