MVHS Buffalos put the hoofs to the Lovell Bulldogs, taking the win

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The MVHS Buffalos powered up on the gridiron last Friday when they hosted the Lovell Bulldogs in a hard fought 2A match and proved they could still be the top team in the conference, taking the win 36-28.

This battle between the two teams pitted the Buffalos, the conference’s #1 defensive team, against the Bulldogs, the conference’s #1 offensive team. The Buffalos were able to hold the Bulldogs back in the passing and running game, and the Buffalos were able to bring on a tough offense to take the win.

This week, the Buffalos hosts the Pinedale Wranglers, and the Wranglers enter the fray with a 2-5 overall and a 1-4 conference record. They are coming off of a win over the Kemmerer Rangers last week. After last week’s win, the Buffs have a 7-0, 4-0 record and are at the top of the 2A.

As for the WyoPreps coaches and media poll released Tuesday,

Mountain View was a unanimous pick at the top of 2A with 21 first-place votes. They are followed by Big Horn, Lovell, Cokeville, and Tongue River.

At last week’s game between the Buffalos and the Bulldogs, the Bulldogs were looking for a win to boost their rating for post season. But this didn’t pan out. The projections were, if the Lovell Bulldogs could take the win over the MVHS Buffs, it could put them in the driver’s seat for the West Conference No. 1 seed, depending on how teams like Lyman finished the week’s action. The loss gave the Bulldogs a 4-2, 2-2 record for the season.

This week the Lovell Bulldogs will take on the Kemmerer Rangers and all expectations are they will be able to take another win as the Rangers are having a tough year.

In the battle last week on the Buffalo gridiron, the Bulldogs placed the first points on the board with a touchdown. This was after the teams had traded possession of the ball. The PAT was unsuccessful, but the Bulldogs still held the lead with 6:35 left in the first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter was 6-0, in favor of the Bulldogs.

Down to the fourth quarter and crunch time, the Buffalos had to maintain the lead to take the win. Both teams had been plagued throughout the game with rampant flags, some against the teams in possession and some that provided a benefit for the opposing teams.

With 6:38 left in the fourth, the Buffs were handed a 15-yard penalty. Then, Eardley received a handoff of the ball, raced down the field and into the end zone for another six-points. The PAT was no good, but the Buffs now led 29-20, with 5:15 left in the game. The Bulldogs fought back, and added a touch down and two-point conversion to give them 28 points. This was followed by another touchdown by the Buffalos, but no point after. The final score was an eight-point win for the Buffalos, 36-28.
