MVHS Lady Buffs #1 in 3A SW Quad at the net

Posted

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The MVHS Lady Buffs volleyball team is off to a good start and as of Sept. 24, with five weeks in the books, are ranked the #1 team in the 3A SW Quad.

They entered this week with a 16-6-1, 1-0 overall and conference record. And, as fans know, the conferenced matches are beginning so all of the non-conference wins will have no bearing on the outcome of the season.

Other teams in 3A who are making a presence include NW Buffalo with an overall and conference record of 17-2-3, 3-0; two SE teams: Wheatland 15-6-1, 2-0 and Douglas 16-9, 2-0 and NW Powell 15-3, 2-0.

The LHS Lady Eagles, as of Sept. 24, are third in the SW Quad with a record of 15-7, 1-0. These two teams will face each other tonight in Lyman, and will prove to be a intensive, hard-hitting game.

The Conference Duals will be held at Powell next week on Friday and Saturday.

Last Saturday the Lady Buffs hosted the Big Piney Lady Punchers in a non-conference game and proceeded to roll over the Lady Punchers in the first two sets. In the third set, the Lady Punchers were able to pace the points by the Lady Buffs even though they trailed by a wide margin. The Lady Buffs won the three sets, dominating the match and taking the win, 25-8, 25-9, 25-12.

The kills, aces, blocks proved to keep the Lady Punchers from scoring as they battled at the net against the Lady Buffalos. The Lady Buffalos have a heavy senior team and are making the most of the years they have played together, notching the wins and not giving up many points.

During the three sets for this match, Kate Walker finished with 10 kills, and Mya Hutchings had five.

MVHS head coach Diana Tims said Tuesday afternoon in reference to the game with Big Piney, “Our girls did well and stayed focused and fundamental as they played to secure the win. This week we play Lyman on Friday and Pinedale on Saturday. Both are competitive teams with a lot of potential. We will work hard this week to prepare to be ready to play them.

“I feel like we have had a successful season so far. We have had our share of injuries and stumbling blocks that we have had to adjust to, but the girls have a lot of grit and determination to do well and compete each time they play,” Tims said. “They have been great teammates to each other and all of the girls contribute to showing some leadership in different ways. We have seven seniors who have all shown a lot of commitment over the years to the sport and their teammates. I am excited to see them continue to grow throughout the year.”
