EVANSTON — Oscar LaVar Pitts born on March 19, 1963, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 8, 2022 at the age of 59.

He built many things throughout his life and lived in many places with his family as a foreman for Alta Construction and then a superintendent for HBE Construction and Saunders Construction. Everywhere he traveled he impacted the lives of those around him. He was a loyal employee and was in the top of his field specializing in constructing hospitals.

LaVar was a gentle giant. To know him was to love him. You will never meet a kinder or morerespected man. He had a great sense of humor, which he used at every opportunity to tease and make people laugh. We always joked that he was “Papa, A Man, A Myth, and a Legend” and his humble and kind nature made it true.

He leaves a legacy with everyone he encountered, particularly with his family whom he loved more than anything.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children: Ashlee (Brendan) Donovan, Oscar Ashton Pitts, and Spencer (Chelsea) Pitts; grandchildren: Braxton, Mackenzie, and Delaney Donovan, Avah Rose Hindman-Pitts and Cameron and Charlie Pitts; mother, Barbara Bluemel; siblings: Susan (George) Jackman, Nancy (Kevin) Maxfield, Troy Leon Pitts Jr., Rex (Chris) Bluemel, Leonard Pitts, Ruth (Merv) Buecker, Melanie (Ned) Walker, Melissa (Stacey) Maxfield, John (Angie) Pitts, Kay Bluemel, Laura Maxfield, and Carol (Scott): laws and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cassandra; fathers, Troy Leon Pitts Sr., and Reed Bluemel; sisters: Shelley (Gary) Cantlin and Bobbie (David) Johnson.

LaVar enjoyed being outdoors. He was always up for an adventure with his wife, Sandi, whom he has been married to for 37 years. They forged their own path ahead with vigor and love. He was an amazing man who led his family with a quiet determination. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. Fly high old man.

His funeral will be held on Nov. 19, 2022. Receiving line 9:30 -10:45 a.m.; funeral 11 a.m. at Urie Stake Center, 3815 Highway 414, Urie Wyoming, 82937. Interment at Fort Bridger Cemetery.

LaVar was an organ donor.
