Susan Thomas Tippets, 82, died Sunday, Sunday, Aug. 17, at the University of Utah Hospital, from injuries due to a car accident and a subsequent cardiac arrest. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born June 5, 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico to Frank and Dorotha Thomas. She was the oldest offour4 children. She spent her younger years in Laramie, Kemmerer and Bridger Valley, and she graduated from Lyman High School in 1961.
She met her future husband, Ashby (Hap) Tippets, the first week of attending the University of Wyoming during Lambda Delta Sigma Pledge Week — it was love at first sight for both of them. After a brief courtship of four years, and waiting for Hap to serve an LDS mission, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 27, 1965. They have been married for 60 years.
Sue and Hap have lived in the Bridger Valley for 50 years, where they raised their six children. After Hap retired from dentistry, they served two LDS missions — one to the Ogden Temple and another to Costa Rica, where Sue found out that she loved to zipline!
Sue had many interests that she pursued in depth that brought her joy. She was an avid genealogist, wrote several books about the history and people of the Bridger Valley, and played the piano and organ. She loved to quilt, sew (owning her own sewing school in her younger years), paint, do interior design, study the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and her most recent joy (which her granddaughters introduced to her), watching K-Dramas.
She was survived by her husband Ashby (Hap) Tippets. Her children Tom (Denise) Tippets, Juli (John) Schiess, Ben (Mona) Tippets, Joel (Jocelynn) Tippets, Jeremy (Cami )Tippets, Katie (Jonathan) Hudson, 27 grandchildren, and Sue was excited to have her first great grandchild on the way!
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Bridger Valley LDS Stake Center, with a viewing on Friday, Aug. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the same location.
Interment will take place at the Ft. Bridger Cemetery.
