Posted

LYMAN — The LHS Eagles were back on top of their game on the gridiron last week when they faced Kemmerer Rangers on Friday, taking a lop sided win over the Rangers, 38-7.

The Eagles stepped on the field after taking a drubbing in their Homecoming game the week before, but regrouped, powered up and soared over the Rangers in their game at Kemmerer.

The Eagles take on Hot Springs at Thermopolis today at 5 p.m. As of Oct. 1, the LHS Eagles have a 4-2, 2-2 overall and conference record and are ranked fifth in the 2A West. They still have to face #2 West Cokeville in a conference game on Oct. 19.

Five weeks of the regular season have passed, and the Eagles have a non-conference game against Rich, Utah next week on the Eagle gridiron. As for the West, Mountain View is in first place with a 6-0, 3-0 overall and conference record. The top team in the 2A East is currently claimed by Big Horn with a 4-1, 4-0 record.

As for the Eagles’ game last week at Kemmerer, the Eagles soared and flew over the Rangers to take the win. The Eagles were on the board in the part of the first quarter when Xander Lyman made a 50-yard dash into the end zone. This was followed by a 2-point conversion giving the Eagles an eight-point lead, 8-0, with 3:35 left in the first quarter, which was the score at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles powered up through the Ranger defense in the second quarter. With 7:35 left in the second quarter, Eagle Carter Bradshaw again carried and pushed up the field. Lyman handed off to Kyce Hurdsman who carried the ball 27 yards. This was followed with Bradshaw going up the middle and into the end zone for another Eagle TD. A successful 2-point conversion put the score at 16-0.

A second TD run by Hurdsman from about 33 yards out added more points to the Eagle score. Another 2-point conversion on a handoff from Bradshaw to Lyman moved the score to 24-0.

Another TD and 2-point conversion, the third TD for Hurdsman of the game, put the score at 32-0 at the half.

Back on the field in the second half, Bradshaw again kept the ball after the snap, raced up the field for about 53 yards into the end zone, giving the Eagles another six points. The ball came loose on the two-point conversion attempt so the score stayed at 38-0, with 6:36 left in the third quarter. The Rangers dug down and held the Eagles on their push up through the field. The score at the end of the third was 38-0.

In the fourth, the Eagles substituted some man-power, and also had some fourth-down turnovers. Kemmerer regained control of the ball on a fumble. Ranger Cole Rogers was able to gain some good yardage with 3:45 left in the game. The Rangers aced a TD and a PAT, getting on the board with 2:47 left on the clock. When the clock ran out, the Eagles had a 31-point advantage, 38-7.
