MVHS and LHS football teams rank in top 20 of the decade in Wyoming according to MaxPreps

WYOMING — According to MaxPreps, Sheridan is the most dominant high school football team from Wyoming over the last decade and earned this recognition from by five state titles and two second-place finishes.
Based on MaxPreps methodology, the Broncs amassed 322 points from play over 2010 to 2019, to edge Natrona County, which finished second with 303 points.
Sheridan won championships in 2011 and 2019, and three consecutive starting in 2015. It also placed second in 2010 and 2018.
Natrona County captured three state titles during the decade and placed second three times.
MaxPreps used a point system, which was based on the state championship team receiving 20 points and an appearance in a state championship game receiving 10 points.
According to this system, MaxPreps placed the MVHS Buffalos as the No. 8 team of the top 20 teams in Wyoming. They gave Mountain View a score of 190 points. Mountain View had won the 2A state championship in 2014, 2017 and 2019. In addition, the Buffalos were the state runner up in 2013 and 2018.
Another team of interest in the top 20 for southwestern Wyoming was the Cokeville Panthers with a score of 235. The Panthers competed in 1A and took the state championship in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. They were also the state runner ups in 2018 and 2019.
These two teams have consistently met on the gridiron in a non-conference game and the Panthers taking some of the wins. This year the two teams will meet on the gridiron in a conference game. The Panthers have consistently fielded an 11 man team. The WHSAA got rid of the 1A-11 man team section and put all 1A teams in a six-man category for the 2020 season. However, Cokeville opted to move up to the 2A level for football so they could maintain their 11-man team. This will be the scenario for the coming season if the coronavirus pandemic doesn’t create or eliminate this year’s competition.
The Lyman High School Eagles came in as the 19th dominant team of the decade. The Eagles earned the 2A state championship in 2012. They also was the state runner-up in 2011. The Eagles have also met the Panthers in the past in a non-conference game. This year the game will be played for a conference win.
