BRIDGER VALLEY — One athlete from Mountain View and one fro Lyman received top honors recently when they were selected as the SW Student-Athletes of the Year for 2021-22.

The Southwest District Administrators recently released their decision as why these two athletes were selected for this prestigious honor. Brice Hansen of Lyman and Mountain View’s Tanner Erickson were named the 3A/4A winners.

In addition, the SW Administrators named the winners f the 1A/2A classifications.

For 1A/2A the winners are Kylee Dayton from Cokeville and Koye Gilbert of Encampment.

The award is presented to a senior male and female student-athlete meeting the criteria for selection, which includes athletics achievement throughout high school (50%), academic achievement (35%), and community service/leadership (15%).

Nominations were made by numerous coaches and ADs in the Southwest District. The selections were made by coaches who attended the Student-Athlete of the Year meeting and spoke on behalf of their nominations.

Hansen has been All-State three times in volleyball and basketball during her prep career. She helped the Lyman Eagles win the 3A volleyball state championship last fall and finish second at the 3A state basketball tournament. The defending 3A state champion in the discus, Hansen is pre-qualified for the state track championships in that event.

Erickson was a two-time all-state runner in cross country. He finished second at the 3A State Cross Country Championships last fall. That helped Mountain View win the school’s first state title. Erickson is already pre-qualified for this year’s state track meet in three individual events and on one relay for the Buffalos.
