ROCK SPRINGS — Bridger Valley athletes again conquered the cross country course at their latest competition when they went up against three other schools in the Rock Springs Invitational.

Top spot in both the boys and girls division went to a runner from the Valley, Karly Sabey of Lyman and Owen Burnett.

The Invitational was held last Friday, Oct. 7, at the White Mountain Golf Course. Other teams who competed in the race included host school Rock Springs, Green River and Manila, Utah. But after dusting the dirt from their shoes, the Valley again claimed the two top spots.

Team titles were claimed by the Green River girls and the Mountain View boys. Mountain View captured the title with 23 points over Rock Springs in second place with 52 points. The average for the Buffalo runners was 17:36 followed by the average of 18:57 for Rock Springs. Burnett was the only racer when was designated as turning in an elite performance, turning in a time of 16:30.

Today, both teams will hit the course at Lander Valley and then move onto the state meet next week at Wyoming Indian in Ethete.

As for the boys team, Mountain View and Lyman dominated the top 14 places. MV’s Colt Henrie was fourth followed by Lyman’s Brigham Fanos in fifth. These runners were in a field of 40 runners competing in the race.

As stated before Sabey of Lyman, again claimed first place in the girls division with a time of 20:42.80, outpacing the second place time of Isabelle Murdock of Green River just slightly under a minute. The LHS girls team took second place at the race, 50 points behind first place Green River. Mountain View was third and Rock Springs, fourth.

In the girls race, MV’s Caprice Winn was third followed by teammate Natalee Rudy in at fifth. As for Lyman, Maryanne France was the next fastest runner, crossing the finish line as #9.

These girls competed in a field of 26 runners.
