Valley Track and Field teams hot at state meet

CASPER — Athletes from both Mountain View and Lyman took some of the top places at the 3A state track and field meet last week in Casper.

The MVHS boys took the top mark of the Valley athletes as they took third place at state. They had gone into the state meet as the 3A W regional champs.

Powell cornered first place in the boys and girls divisions. For the boys teams, Powell notch 107.5 points, followed by Lander with 99 points. Mountain View took third with 91 points, and Lyman was eighth with 47 points.

In the girls events, Powel aced 105.5 points for their first place finish followed by Worland with 103 points. Mountain View tied for eighth place and Lyman was 11th place.

The weather had been predicted to be mostly good for the state meet although it started a little rainy on Thursday. By Saturday, the weather had cleared and warmed up to provide an excellent backdrop for track and field athletes to go head-to-head against their competitors.

Athletes who placed in the top eight of each event stood on the podium recognizing their accomplishments. These athletes also earned points for the teams’ scores.

Lyman captured two first places in the guys events when Braydon Bradshaw hit 6-04.00 feet for 10 points. He also took first in the discus with a heft for 147-03 feet for another 10 points for the Eagles. In addition, Carter Bradshaw aced the pole vault for the guys with a vault of 13-00.00 feet for another 10 points, which was one foot higher than second place finish.

Mountain View track athletes also claimed three four place finishes. Sprinter Carson Eardley took first in the 100 with a time of 11.10 for 10 points for the Buffalos team. Teammate Dane Branson took first in the shot with a throw for 50-06.00 feet, racking up another 10 points for the Buffalos.

Two Mountain View girls who have been at the top of their events also took first places in an event. Mya Hutchings cleared the high jump by going over the bar at 5-02.00 feet to put another 10 points on the board for the Buffalos. Vaulter Mylie Micheii took first place in the girls division with a vault for 10-03 feet and another 10 points for the Buffalos.
