BRIDGER VALLEY — Hoops season for the Bridger Valley High Schools kicked off this month with the local districts hosting the Bridger Valley Tournament.

It brings in multiple teams across the classifications and pits teams against others they won’t see during the regular season. Gives the teams a chance to hone skills before they start competing in the regular season when wins and losses determine if they are sharp enough to go to post season.

Both schools also competed at the Flaming Gorge Classic hosted by Green River and Rock Springs last weekend.

With just the kick off of the winter season, most teams focus on the next game, but in the back of their mind they also know, wins are what make their seasons. The teams are in a hiatus for the Christmas break and will be back on the hardwood in January.

As for the girls teams for both school districts, they aced their games at the BV Tournament and the Gorge Classic. The LHS Lady Eagles and the MVHS Lady Buffalos proved they are power on the hardwood as they both notched all wins through both of these tournaments.

The latest standings for the girls 3A SW Quad, based on the games played through Dec. 18, prove the veracity of both the Lyman and Mountain View varsity girls teams. The standing were Lyman in first with a 8-0 record, followed by Mountain View with an identical record, 8-0. Pinedale was third with a 6-0, and Lander in fourth with a 2-5 record.

In the Bridger Valley Tournament, none of Lyman’s competition would be classed as 3A and the scores reflected Lyman’s prowess over the smaller schools. Lyman beat Kemmerer, 61-18; and Manila, Utah, 49-35 on Thursday Dec. 8. On Friday, Dec. 9, the Eagles punched the Big Piney Punchers sending them to the floor with a whopping score, 60-11.

Lyman took on 1A Little Snake River on Saturday, and again notched a lop-sided win, 63-21.

The competition was somewhat tougher for the Lady Eagles in the Flaming Gorge Classic last weekend, but the Lady Eagles didn’t let the 4A schools bother them. The Eagles first game was on Thursday of last week against Star Valley. This game was more of a nail-biter, but Lyman proved they could overcome and took the game by one point, 32-31.

As for the MVHS Lady Buffalos, they posted the same win record during these two tournaments. For their first game on Thursday Dec. 8, during the BV tournament, the Lady Buffs faced 1A #2 Cokeville and handed the Panthers a 9-point loss, 54-45.

Mountain View played two 1A teams on Friday. They rolled over the Farson Pronghorns 63-8, and handed Little Snake River a 9-point loss, 45-34. Saturday’s game was against 2A Wind River. Mountain View notched a lop-sided win over Wind River by 42 points, 61-19.

At the Flaming Gorge Classic, the Lady Buffs went up against 4A schools, and took wins in all their games. On Thursday of last week, they played Green River and won by 9-points, 47-38. The Lady Buffalos were back on the floor in two games last Friday. They beat Riverton by 19-points, 53-34, and Rock Springs by 14-points. 55-41.

Last Saturday was the last day of the Classic, and the MVHS Lady Buffalos closed out the tournament with a decisive win over Jackson by 44-points, 55-11. The Lady Buffs kept sinking baskets and held a 23-point lead seconds within the start of the second quarter. With 30 seconds left in the first half, the lady Buffs had a 31-point lead. A layup by Halle Porter booster their lead to 33, 37-4.
